EvalCourse

EvalCourse is a software system that supports assessment procedures of learning processes developed on Learning Management System (LMS). It runs queries written in an assessment-specific query language (SASQL) retrieving information from a LMS and providing in its output the objective indicators requested. Currently, EvalCourse only works on Moodle, but its software architecture is able to process information from other LMS with a little work

About EvalCourse

SASQL is a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) to retrieve objective assessment-oriented indicators. SASQL queries can be run on EvalCourse software. EvalCourse has been developed using a model-driven approach for modeling procedures for obtaining performance indicators of competences. It has been created using Xtext within Eclipse Modeling Framework.

Here we can see the performance scheme EvalCourse: First, the syllabus must be analyze to get a list of objective indicators that can be obtained from the LMS to measure course outcomes. Those indicators should be published, so students know how they will be assessed. Then, the course coordinator has to create in the LMS the different activities and groups of students needed to collect the indicators, according to the course learning design. During the course the students interact with the LMS according to the instructions provided by their supervisors. When desired, the course coordinator can issue SASQL queries on EvalCourse, so it retrieves the requested indicators and outputs the desired grading reports.
