This page will explain how to run the pre-installed linux vmware image and gives a guide how to build, run and debug the Core 3 project. All the development software and the source for Core 3 is bundled with this image so you do not have to install anything besides the VMWare Player.

I. Downloading and Installing VMware Player (for Windows):

a. VMWare Player. Click on the "Download Now" link for "VMware Player 2.0.4".

b. Download the Debian linux vmware image. Extract it where ever you wish.

c. After installing VMware Player, start it up and open the previously downloaded image. Finally click "Run". (If you have problems, please see section four)

d. Login information: root/12345678, swgemu/123456

II. Using Eclipse:

a. Managing the source

Right click on the project you like to manage in the C++ Project window and select the Team option. Here you can update or commit the source.

b. Compiling

In the bottom right corner there is a window called "Make Targets". You can run and add any make targets there.

c. Debugging

Open the "Debug" perspective by navigating to Window/Open Perspecitve/Debug from the Eclipse menu. You can also click on the Debug box in the upper right corner. Here you can debug Core 3 by navigating to Run/Debug or clicking to the small icon forming a bug on the toolbar.

III. Debugging with Valgrind:

There is a shell script called "vcore3" in the bin folder, you can simply run that by "./vcore3". This will run Core 3 with memory error and leak detection. You will find the output in a log file created there once you shut the binary down. For further information please visit the Valgrind Manual.

IIII. Troubleshooting

"This virtual machine was configured to use two CPUs. You only have one, so you can not power on the virtual machine."

If you have the full version of VMware (such as VMware Server / VMware Workstation), you can easily change the number of CPUs using the virtual machine settings before power on. If you are using VMware player, edit the .vmx configuration file in the Debian folder. Edit the following line:

numvcpus = "2" and change it to read numvcpus = "1"
