In order to use python in the web, you need to setup following environment on your machine-

A web server
Python
Configure the server to support python
HTML page
Python Script

Web servers like Apache, Lighttpd, etc can be used. Here we have used lighttpd web server and python version 2.6.4

To configure the LightTPD server to locate the path of the python binary and use CGI/Python, you'll need to to install python and modify the server configuration file. The configuration file is located in drive_name/lighttpd/etc/lighttpd.conf where drive_name is the location where you have installed lighttpd.

Your configuation file's 'sever.modules' will be containing some line like this

server.modules              = (
#                                       "mod_simple_vhost",
#                                       "mod_evhost",
#                                   "mod_userdir",
                                   "mod_cgi",
#                                       "mod_compress"
                                       )

Enable mod_cgi in server.modules if commented or add line - "mod_cgi" in server.modules

Also, uncomment the 'cgi.assign' block if commented and add line - ".py" => location where python is installed on your machine

ex..

cgi.assign =(

                      ".pl" => "/usr/bin/perl",
                      ".cgi" => "/usr/bin/perl",
            ".py" => "C:/Python26/python.exe"

)

Then write a python script which you want to run from web.

The first line of a cgi/python script should be the shebang line, which indicates the location of the program that should be used to interpret the script. If your cgi scripts will be run ONLY on Windows, you can use Windows-specific shebang lines, which look something like this:

#!C:/Python26/python.exe -u

Note the -u following the interpreter path; this is very important. It puts the python interpreter in "unbuffered" mode. Trying to run python cgi scripts in the (default) buffered mode will either result in a complete lack of return value from your cgi script (manifesting as a blank html page) or a "premature end of script headers" error.

Then, write HTML pages for invoking python scripts.

After that, deploy HTML pages and the python scripts on the lighttpd server.

i.e. copy these files in the 'htdocs' folder of lighttpd web server.
