Overview

The major new feature of SMART 3.3.0 is CyberTracker support for surveys. Similar to patrols, you can now export survey configurations to a CyberTracker device and import data back into SMART. Additional configurable model options have been added to support new features such as groups. Additional details can be found here: CyberTracker Support for SMART Survey Module.

Reminder: Security Best Practices

1. Delete the included sample Conservation Area from your production environment
2. Do not use smart/smart as your username/password

The sample Conservation Area that comes with SMART has an administrative user which is useful for testing and as a sandbox Conservation Area to use while learning and training others on the software. However, in a production environment the sample Conservation Area should be deleted because the default username/password of the sample Conservation Area does have some privileges that could affect your other production Conservation Areas. Features like restoring an older version (overwriting all current data) only need a single administrator from any Conservation Area to launch. Also, changing automatic system backup settings can be done in any Conservation Area by any administrator but will affect all Conservation Areas in the system.

Installing Version 3.3.0

Upgrading To SMART 3.3.0

If upgrading from 3.1.x (or prior release) to 3.3.0 users will be given the option to update their species attribute by removing any species that are not being referenced in the SMART database (by a patrol or other observation). This option will only be provided if the existing species attribute meets the following criteria: has a data model key of 'species', has more than 50 species in the database, and has more than 30% of the species that are unused. More information can be found in tickets #1118 and #1386.

If upgrading from 3.2.x or later you will not have the option for cleaning your species trees.

You can upgrade to SMART 3.3.0 from any of SMART 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 2.0.2, 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.1.0, 3.1.1, 3.2.0, 3.2.1. If you have a different version of SMART you must first upgrade your database to one of these versions before you can upgrade to SMART 3.3.0.

To upgrade to SMART 3.3.0:

Backup your existing SMART database using the 'File -> Backup System' menu option.
Install SMART 3.3.0. If you are going to install it in the same location as your previous version, you must delete the previous version first. Do not merge directories.
On the login screen, select the 'Advanced' option, then the 'Restore a Backup' option. Follow the wizard, and when asked to select a backup file to restore, pick the file created in step 1 above.
A prompt will appear, warning that the backup file is not compatible with the current software version. You will be asked if you want to upgrade (and restore) - select 'Yes'. At this point the backup will be upgraded and restored.
WARNING: Upgrading a large database may take a while (10-15 minutes for a database with ~800,000 waypoints).

Ecological Records	This plugin provides tools for managing surveys and associated data. It includes functionality for creating designs, surveys and associated missions, recording data and querying results.	Not Installed

Language Packs

Language packs provide translations of the SMART application into various languages. Language packs are provided for the main application as well as separately for each plugin. SMART language packs provide different levels of language support which depends on how many strings have been translated in SMART and how many strings have been translated in third party tools used by SMART.
