This document was created to instruct Vanipedia compilers in Vaniquotes that use an Apple computer (MacOSX) on how to install a "macro" (automation program) to make compilations in Vaniquotes faster when there is no need for headings and for compiling books with Translation and/or Purport, e.g.: BG, SB, CC, etc.

Installation

Install Watir Firefox driver (for controlling the browser from a ruby script: http://watir.com/installation/)
Install watir Firefox plugin (Instructions in Waitr installation - see above - where it says "Watir’s support for Firefox also requires a plugin."). To find which version of Firefox you have, go to Firefox|About Firefox in the Firefox menu
Install rb-appscript library. (Ruby substitute for Applescript http://appscript.sourceforge.net/rb-appscript/install.html.)
Make keyboard shortcuts in Vedabase (inside Crossover) to access:
1. "Copy with reference" (Command+C) by going to Tools|Customized|Keyboard(tab)|Misc(pull-down) click on "Copy with reference", click on "Press new shortcut key" and press Command+C (command or Apple key and the letter "C" at the same time"). Click on "Assign->" and the shortcut should show in the "Keys:" box.
2. Next Hit: Command+S (the same way you did "Copy with reference", just find it in Tools|Customized|Keyboard(tab)|Navigate)
3. Previous Hit: Command+A (same as above)
The idea is to make sure that your left hand has access to all the keyboard shortcuts and your right hand stays on the mouse. In this way you will be a super fast compiler. This means that you can decide which key combinations you want, but if I were you I would stick to the suggested ones here in order to standarize and make it easier to troubleshoot any problems you might have.
Copy (download) the files file:Vaniquotes_compile_translation.rb and file:Vaniquotes_compile_purport.rb to ~/Library/Scripts/Vani (make the directories). the "~/" is called the "Home path". This means that the Scripts folder is found in the path: /Users/yourusername/Library/Scripts
Install Fastscripts, an application that helps you make keyboard shortcuts much easier. Download this file, unzip it (by double-clicking on it) and then move the Fastcripts application (found in the folder created when you unzipped) to the Applications folder in your Mac. Open Fastcripts, and it will appear in the top menu bar of the desktop as a Script icon.
Assign keyboard shortcuts for both ruby script files in Fastcripts. They should appear in the Fastcripts menu automatically if you placed them in the correct folder (preferably something similar to the Vedabase shortcut, e.g.: Command+Shift+R for "Vaniquotes_compile_purport.rb" and Command+Shift+T for "Vaniquotes_compile_translation.rb")
Copy Firefox shortcut file to your desktop. This shortcut will make Firefox launch with special functionality specific to this task. (so it's best you only use the Firefox you open with this shortcut for Vaniquotes compiling)

Usage

Open Firefox with the shortcut (you copied previously to the desktop) and go to a Vaniquotes page to compile
Open your Vedabase (in Crossover).
Start compiling (open a Vaniquotes page in Compile Mode ) as usual but instead of copying and pasting the quote from Vedabase, simply key the shortcut you created in Vedabase for "Copy with reference" (read above in the installation instructions if you don't have a keyboard shortcut for copying with reference; it should be Command+C) and without switching to Firefox you can key (press the keys of) the shortcut your created in Fastcripts to execute the Vaniquotes_compile_purport or Vaniquotes_compile_translation accordingly.
Voila! the quote must have been compiled into the compilaiton automatically.
